Innocent Egbunike is one of the known names when it comes to the sports of track and field in Nigeria; he was born in the year 1961, on the 30th of November in Onitsha. He was one of the best and fastest sprinters Nigeria had and has won many awards in various continental and international championships.
Some of his achievements include;
- Winning a gold medal for Nigeria in the year 1983 Edmonton in a 200m race in Summer Universiade.
- Winning a gold medal in the All-Africa Games Championship which was held in 1987 in Nairobi on a 400m race.
- Also in 1987, he won a silver medal in 400m for men in the World Championships which was held in Rome.
- Egbunike, also won a bronze medal in Los Angeles in the year 1984 in the Olympic Games in men’s 4x400m relay.
